KNUST faculty of Agriculture (MPhil/MSc) programmes 

KNUST faculty of Agriculture (MPhil) which falls under the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers a variety of programmes for students wanting to pursue a MPhil degree. Amongst these programmes are:

Department of Animal Science

The KNUST faculty of Agriculture (MPhil/MSc), Department of Animal Science, admits students to pursue a Masters degree in:

  • MPhil. Animal Breeding and Genetics
  •  MPhil. Reproductive Physiology
  • MPhil. Animal Nutrition
  • MPhil. Meat Science

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Agriculture or related disciplines from any recognized University. Candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) would be required to pass a selection interview.

Department of Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and Extension

The KNUST faculty of Agriculture (MPhil/MSc), Department of Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and Extension, admits students to pursue a Masters degree in:

MSc. Agribusiness Management

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Agribusiness Management, Business Administration, Agriculture and relevant subject areas from an approved University or Institution of Higher Learning. Preference would be given to candidates with several years of relevant academic, administrative, or field experience. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview.

 MSc. Agricultural Extension and Development Communication

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Agriculture or relevant subject areas (Natural Resources Management, Rural Development, Development Planning, Development Studies, Environmental Management, Sociology, Psychology) from an approved University or Institution of Higher Learning. Preference would be given to candidates with several years of relevant academic, administrative, or field experience. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview.

MPhil. Agribusiness Management

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Agribusiness Management, Business Administration, Agriculture and relevant subject areas from an approved University or Institution of Higher Learning. Preference would be given to candidates with several years of relevant academic, administrative, or field experience. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview.

MPhil. Agricultural Economics

Candidates must have Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Art (BA) degree (Minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) or its equivalent in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or other related disciplines from a recognized University. Candidates must pass a selection interview to be conducted by the Department and demonstrate their ability to pay the required fees. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview.

 MPhil. Agricultural Extension and Development Communication

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) in Agriculture or relevant subject areas (Natural Resources Management, Rural Development, Development Planning, Development Studies, Environmental Management, Sociology, Psychology) from an approved University or Institution of Higher Learning. Preference would be given to candidates with several years of relevant academic, administrative, or field experience. Candidates shall be required to pass a selection interview. Holders of MSc. Agricultural Extension and Development Communication who would want to upgrade to an MPhil degree must pass a selection interview and may be required to audit some relevant courses.

Department of Crop and Soil Sciences

The KNUST faculty of Agriculture (MPhil/MSc), Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, admits students to pursue a Mastersdegree in:

  • MPhil. Agronomy
  • MPhil. Agronomy (Crop Physiology)
  • MPhil. Crop Protection (Entomology)
  • MPhil. Crop Protection (Nematology)
  • MPhil. Crop Protection (Plant Pathology)
  • MPhil. Crop Protection (Plant Virology)
  • MPhil. Plant Breeding
  • MPhil. Soil Science

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Agriculture or related discipline from a recognized institution.

Department of Horticulture

The KNUST faculty of Agriculture (MPhil/MSc), Department of Horticulture, admits students to pursue a Masters degree in:

  • MPhil. Postharvest Technology
  • MPhil. Seed Science and Technology
  • MPhil. Fruit Crops Production
  • MPhil. Landscape Studies
  •  MPhil. Vegetable Crops Production

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) in Agriculture, Landscaping or Allied programmes. Candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered after a selection interview or must demonstrate considerable experience in research in the relevant field.
