KNUST campus accommodation portal is an online room booking system for freshmen admitted to the University to reserve their traditional hall of residence before arrival.

KNUST CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION FOR FRESHERS

There are Six Halls of residence and a number of hostels on the University Campus. The halls are Queen Elizabeth II Hall, Unity Hall, Independence Hall, Republic Hall, University Hall, and Africa Hall. All Six Halls for freshmen KNUST campus accommodation are mixed shelter both male and female students.

KNUST accommodation for continuing students

There are Nine other on-campus hostels of which Two are for postgraduate students and are managed by external investors. The remaining Seven accommodate both freshmen and continuing undergraduate students. Five being under the management of the Ghana Universities Staff Superannuation Scheme (GUSSS); Baby Brunei, Brunei Complex, New Brunei, Old Brunei, and the Chancellor’s Hall (Hall 7). One being managed by an association of credit unions; Tek Credit. And the last one being managed by the Student’s Representative Council (SRC); SRC hostel.

KNUST campus accommodation benefits (Amenities)

On-Campus accommodation provides students with certain amenities such as proper security, free electricity, unlimited WIFI connect, amongst many which outside-campus may not provide. Not to disregard the benefits which outside-campus living may also provide.

There are basically 6 KNUST campus accommodation options for local Ghanain freshmen. Accommodation is given for an entire academic year after which students are made to exit the halls and seek accommodation elsewhere to continue their education. Below is a list of the Halls…

University Hall

Popularly known as Katanga, is by far the most famous hall in KNUST. As their mantra goes, “The Legend Lives On”. Katanga is one of the most talked about halls in Ghanaintertiary education.

Established in 1961 to mark the day, August 22, 1961, when Kumasi College of Technology became a full university, Katanga was a strictly male hall until recent years. Residence of this hall are called “Fellows”, identified by Yellow and black stripes.

Facilities include Games room, A Gym, Chapel, Internet Cafe, A mini market, Barbering Salon, kitchen that serves food ,basketball court, beach volley court, a pool, statues, lots of food vendors, etc.

Africa Hall

Africa hall was first inhabited on the 14th of October, 1967 and was initially the only female hall in KNUST but in recent years, has been made a mixed gender hall. The twin tower that makes Africa hall, houses over a thousand (1000) students  pursuingvarious programmes in the university.

The hall can boast of having amenities like a restaurant, a chapel, multimedia photo studio, beauty salon, laundry, spacious courtyard, basketball court, gift shop, internet café and other essential facilities that makes a comfortable and ideal environment for the well-being of all its members and others.

Members of the Hall are known as “Domites” and are identified by the color Yellow. With a view of the beautiful AU gardens and a short proximity to commercial area, it is one of the most desired places to live on campus.

Queen Elizabeth II Hall

Queen Elizabeth II Hall was named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and was officially opened in November 1959 by the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Queen later visited the hall in 1961 during her state visit to Ghana. Members of the hall are usually referred to as “Royals” and are identified by the color Blue.

Facilities include an Internet Café, restaurant, Volleyball court, a basket ball court, a tennis court, a games room, a gym, Chapel, a salon, Gift shops, the best Canteen in the entire KNUST, amongst many.

Independence Hall

Independence Hall was officially opened in February, 1959 to commemorate the attainment of Ghana’s independence on 6th March, 1957. The first permanent hall of residence now houses male and female students.

Members of the hall are known as “Spartans” and are identified by the color Red. Facilities include a restaurant, an internet café, a pharmacy, Games room, barbering shop, Chapel, Salon, mini mart, a canteen, a boutique, etc.

Independence hall is highly esteemed by most (including non-affiliate members) due to its enviable outstanding record of event organization and pace-setting in infrastructural development. Independence hall has won for itself the award of the best hall of residence in the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Awards for three consecutive years.

Republic Hall

The Republic Hall at KNUST was dedicated to commemorating Ghana’s attainment of Republic status in 1960. The hall opened in 1961, but no women were admitted.

The first woman to be admitted was in 1991. With such a sophisticated architecture, the whole hall is a labyrinth in which you can easy get lost but will never be boring as you are admiring the beautiful sculptures and statues of the hall.

The hall is most popular across the entire country as a result of their wild parties and events. The get the biggest sponsorship for these events as they are well known.

Residents of this hall are referred to as “Mongols” and are symbolized by the color Green. There is a huge statue of a rooster in front of this hall symbolizing the pride of the hall. Facilities include a modern mini-basketball court, a games room, a chapel, a salon, a gift shop, a kitchen that serves food,multiple restaurants and fast food vendors, etc.

Unity Hall

Unity Hall, popularly known as Conti, is the tallest twin hall in West Africa. It is the largest hall in KNUST. Unity Hall had previously been a male-only hall, but on August 1, 2018, it was changed into a mixed hall. It is known as “The Twin Towers” because of how big and tall it’s two structures are.

One of the few buildings in Kumasi that can almost be called a sky-scraper. Members of the hall are referred to as “Continentals”. With its large populace comes a large array of amenities.

Ranging from having two huge markets, to having a volley ball court, basketball court, chapel, mini mosque, modern internet cafe, a games room, a boutique and gift store, a barbering salon, a food-serving Canteen, and a shopping centre with well-stocked groceries are among many others. It features the biggest, most comfortable, and most welcoming junior common room on campus.
