A Brief History of the KNUST SRC Hostel

The story of the KNUST SRC Hostel is intertwined with the university’s journey towards becoming a hub for academic and cultural diversity. Established in 1952, KNUST has evolved over the years, and so has its accommodation infrastructure. The SRC Hostel stands as a testament to this evolution.

Initially, KNUST had limited accommodation options for its students. Overcrowded dormitories and the struggle for space led to the idea of establishing a hostel that could accommodate a substantial number of students. It was in this context that the KNUST SRC Hostel came into being.

The hostel project took shape in the late 1960s, with the goal of providing a conducive and secure living environment for students. Its construction was marked by meticulous planning and execution, which resulted in a state-of-the-art facility. The hostel was officially opened in 1972, and since then, it has served as a symbol of the university’s commitment to student welfare.
