HOW TO REQUEST FOR REFUND OF EXCESS FEES IN KNUST

The majority of students in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), find paying of fees in general (both tuition and accommodation), very difficult.

Sometimes, financing issues can cause a student his education. The fee structure in the university is made in a way that, it does not support the average income earner parent and student in the country.

Guardians have to find a regular and good source of income in order to finance the education of their wards in the university effectively

Students who are fortunate enough to receive scholarshippackages which comes in to support them and partially or fully lift some of the financial burdens on them.

The select few for these packages stand a chance of sailing through the entire term of their university education fully catered for. Normally, scholarships are paid by the awarding institutions in excess of a certain amount than stated in the bill of the recipient of the award.

This excess money is to support the minor expenses of the recipient of the award to make his/her education less financially burdensome. After payment has been made into the account of the student, he/she can refund the excess amount from the fees account to their personal accounts at any moment they choose.

Moreover, some students just make the mistake of overpayment of fees into their fee account. Students who make this mistake are also entitled to refund of those excess moneys.

Refund will however be made to the person or organization that made the fee payment using the following steps to secure a refund of surplus fees paid.

STEPS IN REQUESTING FOR A REFUND OF FEES

Write a refund letter addressing it to the Finance Officer, stating your reason for wanting to make a refund. Should be brief and concise.
The letter should include the following:

–Reference Number (Student ID)

–Bank Account details (Name of Bank, Branch, Name of account, Bank

Account Number)

Note: The account provided is what the money will be sent through

Attach a photocopy of the receipt of the latest fee payment YOU made at the bank— Emphasis on payments made by yourself
Attach a print out of your KNUST Fee Statement
Do not forget to sign all necessary documents before submission to the Finance office at the main Administration of the school

The processing of the refund is not subject to a fixed timeframe. Processing varies per the number of refund letters that need to be processed in bulk. However, it should be noted that refund takes at least, one month from the date of issue.
